You don’t really know what this file does, or if you need it.
It looks like a Trojan or a virus. You say to yourself “I don’t need this file. All it does is cause problems. I am going to delete it!” STOP!

The csrss.exe file is stored in the c:\windows\system32 folder. It is a critical system process that will cause very big problems if removed. Don’t even try removing it from the task manger. It will still cause operational problems in your operating system. Don’t touch it.

Now, this is a critical system file, but it is easily infected by spy ware and trojans. That’s why it is always showing up in your virus checker. It is best to let your antivirus program deal with this and not worry about it.
There are rare cases when this file will become corrupted. One of the ways you can find out if this file is corrupted is by simply opening your task manager. If it is using over 95% of your CPU or another abnormally high amount, there is a good chance this is the problem.

Don’t worry, though, this problem is easily fixed. This problem is related to a corrupt windows profile. Here is an easy way to remedy this problem.

1. Backup all necessary files in the profiles “My Documents” folder.
2. Log out of the account and log in (or create) another windows account
3. Click “My Computer”, then “Properties”
4. In the window that pops up, click “Advanced”
5. Click the settings button under “User Profiles”
6. Highlight the name of the profile you are having problems with and delete it!

Once you have completed this whole process, you can recreate your windows profile and replace the my documents folder.

The csrss.exe file is an essential operating system file. Tampering with it if you don’t know what you are doing can create some major problems. Let your antivirus program deal with it.
